The Future Sound of London were formed by Brian Dougans and Gary Cobain in the early 90’s and are seen to be one of the most respected and influential electronic acts of the past 15 years. Their work enabling them to incorporate elements of classical, hip hop, electronica, industrial, punk and dub to create expansive tracks laden with samples exquisitely produced and pretty unique.

They met in Manchester in the mid 80’s where they started looking into electronic music, working in clubs and alongside many well known and respected artists and DJ’s from that time. Brian’s work incorporated a project for the Stakker Graphics company where he created the top 20 hit 'Stakker Humanoid', accompanied by a pretty visually stimulating video, while Gary latterly became involved with the accompanying video. Over the next 3 years their partnership grew and they released a number of early techno and dance records under a variety of aliases.

It wasn’t until 1992 when 'Papua New Guinea' was released (through Jumpin’ and Pumpin’), peaking at number 22 in the UK chart, that the first release from The Future Sound of London was available. It was the ambient dub of 'Papua New Guinea' that caught the ears of Virgin Records who snapped them up hoping for more of the same (or similar). First they had to complete an album for Jumpin’ & Pumpin’, so 'Accelerator' was finished and included 'Papua New Guinea' alongside 'Expander', both of which are included here. They began their deal with Virgin with the experimental 'Tales Of Ephidrina', released under their Amorphous Androgynous moniker in 1993, from which we have included the sublime 'Mountain Goat'. It was around this time that ISDN broadcast began to take off as a medium and they keenly took it up, broadcasting to Kiss Fm listeners on an almost regular basis with their mix of ambient and techno.

FSOL are an important part of the journey from post rave electronica, with music that has successfully experimented and crossed the boundaries of trip hop, ambient, hip hop, jungle and even punk, or certainly a punk-rock attitude.

A retrospective exactly as advertised: Retrospective 1994-2006 is a compendium of singles from 1994 to 2006 mapping the stellar second act of electronic music's most prolific producers and successful DJs. Laurent Garnier's productions have always taken a sleek hybrid of European style and sensibility and mixed them with the grit of Detroit techno, but piecing these works together shows that over time the synthesis has resulted in something distinctive and highly individualistic when compared with many producers of the same pedigree. Live versions of "Acid Eiffel" and "Man with the Red Face" replace the originals, which will please die-hard Garnier fans dying to hear extended workouts of two of his most well-loved and recognized works. At two discs in length, this very well could be intimidating to casual listeners just catching up. But the fact that its two discs are chock-full of filler free epics is a testament not only to the quantity of important works, but the quality.

Straight out of the Norfolk countryside, 22 year old Nathan Fake is a most unlikely saviour of electronic music. He has been playing and writing music since he was a young teenager, and his first record 'Outhouse' was released in late 2003 on Border Community.

Since then he has also released tracks and EPs on Saw Recordings and provided remixes for such prestigious labels as Fine Records. Nathan also plays live sets on his laptop, which has seen him showcase his material in places that include Berlin, Barcelona, Paris and Amsterdam.

Now returning to Border Community, Nathan Fake is set to release his debut album 'Drowning In A Sea Of Love', a truly enchanting collection of rocktronica at its finest - loaded with casio riffs, soaring fake-guitar lead lines, single live take recordings and a heap of lighters-in-the-air moments.

Containing the original live take of the psychedelic epic 'The Sky Was Pink' (prior to its remix transformation into the electro anthem of last summer), in addition to recent 7" 'Grandfathered' this is a ballsy, gutsy eleven track wall of computer-noise, underlined by a rock-solid production ethic which belies Fake's tender years.

Who needs a full band anyway? Homegrown UK talent like Nathan Fake doesn't come along every day, and it is little wonder that he is one of so many people's 'Tips for 2006': a true breath of fresh air in a dance scene desparately seeking direction, with this long awaited debut album sure to speak for itself.

Guy Boratto is that type of artist who is always on the go, always creating, always progressing. He has already managed to to appear in the charts and playlists of many leading DJs and producers, including Michael Mayer, Tiefschwarz, Steve Bug, Phonique, Martin Landsky, Hernan Cattaneo and countless others. His name can be found in catalogues of labels such as Kompakt (and its offshot K2), Steve Bug's Audiomatique imprint, Harthouse, Plastic City and many others.

Hailing from Sao Paulo, Boratto currently works for Brazilian and multinational recording companies and is responsible for countless international licensings. Together with his brother Tchorta, he also runs his own independent record label called Mega Music.

In the dance world, Boratto is most known for his tracks ‘Arquipelago’ and ‘Like You’ released on Kompakt, but he actually has a pedigree producing for artists such as Garth Brooks, Steel Pulse, Desiree, Mano Chao, Gal Costa on major Brazilian labels. In 2005 he decided to devote himself to more personal dance music, and in February the first long-playing results of the experiment arrive on Kompakt. 'Chromophobia' includes recently K2 12" 'Gate 7' and twelve new cuts.
